Enchanting Bible stories for children
Myth Made Small is the creative project of writer and parent Josh Lee, re-imagining Biblical stories through a lens that is both symbolic and child-appropriate. The first book in the series, The King Who Broke the Darkness, retells the story of the Harrowing of Hades. A second story, a retelling of the Tower of Babel, is already written and planned for future publication.
Why this project exists
Josh began Myth Made Small out of a sense of absence – few children’s Bible stories capture the beauty, symbolism, and enchantment at the heart of Scripture. Many modern retellings are literal and didactic, shaped by a worldview that prizes explanation over mystery.
As a father of two young children, Josh hopes to offer stories that invite wonder and form the imagination through “true myths.” His own journey has been one of moving from a modernist, purely rational faith toward a more sacramental and richly symbolic vision of the world.
Children naturally live in that enchanted space – where everything glows with meaning. These stories are written to help them stay there a little longer.

How you can support
Myth Made Small is an entirely self-published endeavor. Creating a children’s book takes significant time and resources. If you’d like to help bring these stories to life, there are two simple ways to support the project:
Donate: Every contribution, no matter the size, helps cover the costs of illustration, printing, and distribution — and keeps this project moving forward.
Share: Tell friends, family, churches, or schools about The King Who Broke the Darkness and the larger vision of Myth Made Small. Spreading the word is one of the most powerful ways to help these stories reach more children.
